keep your special balls in a safe place.

baseball1

we (the BF + me) love baseball. in fact, brandon was quite the baseball star. he lived for the sport, playing both in high school and college. he even tried out for a couple major league teams! his love for the sport may have been part of the reason i fell for him --- mmmm, baseball butts. hehe! if you watch baseball, you totally know what i am talking about.

so anytime i come across baseball related crafts + baking + anything really, i get excited. like this baseball bracelet tutorial i have pinned on pinterest. pretty cool, right?!? take an old recycled baseball, cut it up a bit, and "ta da!" you have a super fun bracelet! i knew i wanted to make one, so i asked brandon if i could have a few baseballs to do something "crafty" with. he agreed, dug out three balls, and gave them to me.

picking out my favorite one, i quickly attacked it with an exacto knife. loosely followed this tutorial and in no time at all i had a fun bracelet of my own. i was totally stoked having never seen a baseball bracelet like this before! not to mention the fact it was handmade by me using a baseball from the BFs college career. or so i thought!

you see, a couple nights ago the BF informed me that it wasn't a baseball he had used in college. it was the baseball he used during his tryout with the Minnesota Twins! talk about a kick to my face. i was sick to my stomach. the one ball i decided to tear apart to make a bracelet for myself was one he used to tryout for a major league baseball team?!? aww, crap!

now he claims "it's not that big of a deal" and that "he knew i was going to do something crafty with it." but still! i feel terrible. and taking advice from both of erin and vanessa's husbands, i'm currently stalking ebay for some signed baseballs + gear. or perhaps we will be making the trip to MSP (only a few hours away!) quite a few times this summer to watch those Twins play.

and really all i can picture is somewhere down the line telling this story to our kids. it's going to be epic! moral of the story: keep your special balls in a safe place. :)

xo, megan.

  2. And there was me thinking men usually kept their balls safe when playing sports... ;o) Still, the bracelet looks cool! And I can see what you mean about baseball butts, but rugby bums... plus they spend a lot more time with their arses in the air (you just don't always want to look too closely at the faces ;o) )

  3. Aww, cute story! We are baseball nuts, too. :) *cough cough* Chicago Cubs *couch cough* :P
Maybe I will dig out an all ball and use it to make something for my hubby! I've been thinking of making him a passport wallet, because he travels a TON. I bet I could add the laces for the spine of the wallet or something. :)
    Love the bracelet!

  5. Ha! I have definitely cut up something in the name of crafts only to wish I hadn't later on. I have this crazy thing for stamps, that apparently goes back a long way. I spent the last week at my parents' house going through boxes of stuff I've accrued over the years in an attempt to reduce. Well, it turns out that I'd cut the stamp off of a card on which one of my great-grandmother's neices had written a letter to her. Some of the writing was cut away when removing the stamp, so I wish I'd just left it intact. Alas, lessons learned.

  8. I would have been sick too, but I think it's awesome you have something that was so important to him dug out of the ball storage boxes and out in the open for everyone, including you, to enjoy! That's one special bracelet!

  11. I'm forwarding this to my husband, who is from MN. And my son, who is a baseball nut. I MUST tell you the story of his epic baseball trip the summer after his sophomore year in college. You BF would probably enjoy it. Maybe it would take his mind off his balls. Ahem....
