Blogger's Quilt Festival | Ombre Love

Ombre Love | A Finished Quilt
Blogger's Quilt Festival is in full swing over at Amy's Creative Side and I'm excited to share one of my favorite finished quilts from the past few months, Ombre Love! Inspired by paint chips from the hardware store, I used the ombre prints from Vanessa Christenson's first fabric line called Simply Color from Moda Fabrics. The ombre fabric paired with a crisp white solid really makes for a striking contrast!

Ombre Love | A Finished Quilt
I quilted this throw size quilt using horizontal wavy organic quilting. It really complements wavy pattern created by the ombre "paint ships"! Wavy organic quilting is just a simple twist on straight-line quilting -- except the lines don't have to be super straight! It's a great beginner friendly way to quilt on your domestic sewing machine! The finished quilt measures 58" x 58".

The binding fabric comes from the same V & Co. fabric line. Gray chevron fabric = quick & easy bias-looking binding! I've actually stocked up on this fabric because I love how it works as a binding!

Head on over to the Blogger's Quilt Festival for lots & lots of great quilty inspiration! Thanks to Amy for putting together such a fun blogging event!

Fresh Mini Quilt Club: Round 2 | October 2013

FMQC Round 2: October

Hello! Today I'm excited to share October's Fresh Mini Quilt Club pattern, Sea Breeze. October's mini quilt features a nine block design & half square triangles -- something about the design just screams sea breeze! I'd really like to make another mini quilt using sea foam greens and fresh blues. What do you think?

FMQC Round 2: October

I straight line quilted this mini quilt using my BERNINA walking foot & Aurifil thread (50 wt., color 2024). The lines are 3/4" apart, making for some great quilted texture! Straight-line quilting really is my favorite! Check out my straight-line quilting blog post for more tips & information.

FMQC Round 2: OctoberThe back fabric is this print from Ikea -- which reminds me, I need to pick some more of that fabric up! I used a small black and white strip for the binding from my stash. It's quickly became a binding favorite! The finished Sea Breeze mini quilt measures 22 1/2" x 22 1/2".

FMQC Round 2: OctoberIf you'd like to join Round 2 of the Fresh Mini Quilt Club, there's still time! Register right here or read more about the club right here

Happy Tuesday!

Sun Prints: Bike Path | A Blog Hop

Welcome, welcome! Today I get to share a new project I've been working on using fabric designer Alison Glass' new Bike Path prints. Over this past summer, Alison asked me to participate in a blog hop featuring her upcoming fabric collections. Let's first talk about the fabric -- everything about these collections rock. They are a delightful combination of blenders in every color of the rainbow!

Yummy, right!?

Alright, let's talk about my project. Alison was so generous to send the Bike Path collection my way -- including the matching prints from her previous collections! I decided to play around with some pieced quilt blocks, focusing on using only one print & a crisp white background fabric. The color saturation & clean, modern print of the fabrics speak for themselves.

This block is from the first mini quilt of the Fresh Mini Quilt Club: Round 2 -- more on that coming Monday! I really love how each block turned out, especially with the prints all running the same direction. These little details make my heart sing! Now I just have to decide on a block layout and size for this quilt!
