granny square quilt along.

if you like hanging out in the online sewing+quilting community as much i do, you have most certainly came across this granny square quilt from Blue Elephant Stitches. doesn't it just rock? when i first saw Jolene's quilt i was instantly attracted to it's fresh, crisp, modern feel. it's a spin on the traditional crochet pattern that i love so much! 

well did you all hear that the granny square quilt is the next Old Red Barn Co. QAL? i'm so excited! ever since meeting Dana at Sewing Summit, i've wanted to join in one of her famous QALs and this Granny Square QAL seems like a perfect opportunity to start!

sewing summit [the loot]

you know you have a fabric addiction when you go back to the quilt store, just to finish filling your carry on bags. yep. been there. done that.
 
friday morning, before the official sewing summit festivities started, i took part in a little bus shop hop with 50 other women. and i shopped.til.i.dropped. literally. we visited two shops that i seriously couldn't get enough of. if you ever find yourself in SLC, you must check out Material Girl Quilts and Pine Needles. they are fab.u.lous. 
 

first up: fabric. my stash at home was in need of some blender fabrics, so i was on a mission. lots of fat quarters.
 

 
i also picked up a couple patterns that have been on my wish list for a while.
 

 
there were lots and LOTS of fabulous door prizes on our shop hop. my prize was this adorable Halloween jelly-roll. so i had to pick up a fat quarter and charm pack to go with it. 
 

at this point i was totally satisfied with my purchases, but i still had room in my carry on. the solution: yarn store! i picked up a few yummy fall yarns to make some cowls. 

phew!

this doesn't even include the fabulous sewing summit swag bags! more on that later. :)

fabric goodies.

Like I previously mentioned, Sunday was all about the fabric retail therapy. Maybe it was because of the case of strep throat, or the fact I had to go back to work this week.  Either way, it was needed and appreciated.  
 
First, Sew, Mama, Sew! was having a sale last weekend, so I was drooling over the fabric online.  After seeing these Habitat by Jay McCarroll prints in this Oh, Fransson! quilt, I had to get my hands on some.  Pretty cool, yes?  I love the combo with the Kona solids--still need to get those.  

Feeling confident about my online shopping, I checked out.  Then boyfriend suggested an impromptu trip to a LQS (he had no idea I was already fabric shopping online, hehe).  Umm, yes please!  How could a girl say no?!?
 
At the store, I decided to add to my Innocent Crush by Anna Maria Horner stash. These are some of my favorite fabrics right now.  I am thinking about using these for my month in the {Sew} Beautiful Bee.  String quilt perhaps?

Oh, and then I couldn't pass up these fabrics from the Aviary 2 fabric line by Joel Dewberry.  Yummy!

At this point in the shopping trip, I was feeling pretty good.  I had several great half yards of some yummy fabrics.  So I made my way to the front counter, paid, and was ready to go.  As we were about to walk out the door, the boyfriend mentions he would really like a quilt made out of "these cool fabrics."  He was talking about the gray and green prints from the new Ty Pennington line Impressions.  I couldn't tell him no, so we came home with these guys too.

Moral of the story--Fabric retail therapy ROCKS! :)
 
Oh, and I have the day off from work today (which reminds me, THANK YOU so much for all the kind words regarding my last post!) and you can bet I will be squeezing some sewing/quilting time into tonight's agenda.  Have a fabulous weekend all!

mail time.

mail time! 

insert blues clues mail time song.

Do you all know that song?  Maybe I have just spent too many summers nannying, but every time I get the mail that little song pops into my head. Now that I have jumped into the online blogging and swap community, mail time has become one of my favorite things.  Like yesterday when I received my FQs from the Gen X Kona Your World Swap.

I am pretty sure Grass Green just became my new favorite.

Oh, and my order from The Fat Quarter Shop also arrived a few days ago.  I decided purchase some half yards of Innocent Crush by Anna Maria Horner for my Make Mine Modern Swap partner.  I really hope she likes them, because after seeing the fabric in person I think I am going to have to get some for my stash.  They are just so yummy!

And then I figured if I am ordering some fabric for my partner, I might as well order some for me.  Kind of like if you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to ask for some milk, right? :) 

I went with this fat quarter bundle of Parisville by Tula Pink.

babe, HUGE QUILT SALE!

Yesterday morning's phone conversation with the boyfriend.

Me: Hello.
The Boyfriend: Babe!  I just drove by the quilt store and there is a big sign out front that says HUGE QUILT SALE!
Me: Yeah? (But I am really thinking, Are you felling well?)
The Boyfriend:  I think you should go check it out.  I'll even buy if you want.
Me:  Silence (Ok, something has to be up.  A. He wants me to go buy more fabric, and B. He's offering to pay?!?)
The Boyfriend:  Hello?
Me:  Yeah, I can go check it out if you want. :)

Little did he know, I was already on my way into town to go check out the HUGE QUILT SALE he was talking about.  Look what I found.  After all, he did say he would buy. :)
