the single girl mini.

I have a confession to make.
I have quilty commitment issues.
More commonly referred to as quilty ADD. :)

If you remember, I jumped head first into The Single Girl Support Group like I had nothing to lose.  I chose fabric (Katie Jump Rope!), pressed said fabric, made templates,  and then traced and cut out fabric for a Queen size quilt, and approximately 576 pieces of fabric later, I fizzled.  I lost all motivation and set the entire thing aside--I had Single Girl commitment issues.  Then one day, out of no-where, my SG mojo kicked back in and I had to finish a block--just one.   A little quilty motivation, you could say.

I decided to use left over scraps from my Sliced Coins Quilt and paired them with some Kona Med-Gray.  And, quilty peeps, I seriously love this mini!

I really like the simple, modern feel of the Single Girl pattern and wanted to continue that over into my quilting.  So it seemed like straight-line quilting was the way to go with this mini.  I love the texture and feel the quilted lines give off, especially with the matching gray thread.

Does anyone else enjoy hand sewing binding like I do?!?!  It quite possibly could be my favorite step of the entire quilting process!  Maybe it's knowing you are "this close" to a finish or that it is just plain relaxing--either way, I could do it all day long.

There you have it, my SG motivation.

Anyone else like that?  Do you find yourself having to finish just one block and use it as quilty motivation?

  1. I actually haven't finished one block for motivation. I'm more likely to squeeze in a new project or work on something I really want to work on & that encourages me to get back & finish one of my w.i.p.s.

  2. That looks fabulous! I love it! And the fabric you used too. I totally have craters ADD too. Especially when it comes to long or intense projects, or very repetitive projects, it's probably impossible for me to not throw some other projects in the middle of it. But I'm ok with that. :) at least I'm getting better at going back and finishing those bigger projects up. Good job though. :)

  3. The mini looks great. I love this colour combination. And I enjoy hand sewing the binding very much, too - for both the reasons you mentioned.

  5. Ooh, I love this Megan! The color combo is fantastic and the single block really makes a statement, I think! Nice job.

Oh, and I could use ANY sort of quilty motivation these days. Someone please tell me how to reserve enough energy throughout the day so I can dedicate 30 minutes for sewing every night!

  6. Oooh. Love! I totally have quilt ADD too. But I think it's hilarious that you're having trouble committing to a quilt called "Single Girl." : )

  8. How big is this mini? It looks fantastic - and I too love hand sewing the binding on :) I have a king sized quilt I'm going to be finishing up next week... may not love THAT much hand sewing tho hehe.

  9. That looks fabulous! Love it! I'm just now starting to appreciate the hand binding process and how it lets me take a slow close look at the work I've done. I used to want to rush through it so I was done!

  11. I love your single girl mini! Count me as another lover of bindings - for the same reason as you: the binding means the quilt is almost done!!

  13. I have quilty commitment issues, too. I love the Single Girl quilt but I could never finish one. I start them and abandon them. So, I find things that I can make with quilt squares. I just made my daughter a zig zag skirt and it was almost more piecing than I care for. I have problems!

  14. Your mini quilt is adorable, I love the colors! I also jumped right in with the single girl sew along, cut out all the pieces, finished one good circle... and keep meaning to get the other 15 done! I think I'll finish it eventually, it just takes so long to pin each of those pieces! I can definitely relate :)

  15. I finally made the leap to hand-quilting a few months ago and just started hand-binding my last 3 quilts and I love it so much. SO relaxing.

I like the single girl quilt pattern, could make for some good holiday quilt gifts for my girlfriends..

  16. I so feel your pain. More often then not I abandon things to a UFO box and then forget about them. Love how this turned out, though!
