dream on.

Source.
we all have dreams and aspirations, right? things we constantly think about and work hard to achieve. well most of mine involve fabric. :) i thought i'd share some of them with you all -- which is totally and completely nerve-wrecking and exciting all at the same time. i'm hoping that by blogging about them, some day i will be able to come back and say, "see, told ya so!" :)

quilty dreams.

1) i would love to have my name published in a quilty magazine. ok, well i've actually already achieved the name part (and the picture i suppose) in copy of American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine Top 10 Quilt Shops (2006??). my LQS was featured and i was an employee at the time. don't get me wrong, i think it's totally rad but i'm thinking something a little different. like a published quilt pattern. :)

2) along the same lines, i would love to be a quilt pattern designer. and a few downloadable patterns off my blog is not what i'm thinking. i want in your face, real life quilting patterns. you get the picture, right?

3) which brings me to my next goal. quilt market. i want to go to quilt market. not just for the fun of it--like taking pictures with Tula Pink (don't get me wrong though, i'd love that too!). i want to go with a purpose, to buy or sell.

4.) and ultimately, i want to own my own quilt store. the brick and mortar kind. with fun, modern fabrics. it's been a dream of mine since i started working at my LQS at the age of 14, and now nine years later, i still think about it every day. swoon.

so there you have it, my quilty aspirations.

now you can call me crazy, i can totally take it. :) but at 23 years old, i am bound and determined to make some of these (if not all) a reality! so one day i can look back and say, "see, told ya so!" :)

what are your goals and aspirations? they don't have to fabric related like mine, they just have to be YOU.

xo, Megan

  1. I too would LOVE to own my own quilt/fabric store, or a mom n' pop coffee shop. Both are really lacking in our area. And hey, I'm 23 too, but it's always best to dream big :)

  2. I'd love to sell something I make. Dont get me wrong, I'm not looking for a full time business, I could never cope with that anyway, I'd just love to recoup a little of what I've spent on fabric to buy more... lol

  4. You definitely have the experience to own your shop. You'll do it. Plenty of time! My biggest aspiration is to be able to make enough off of my craft to stay at home. I wanna stay home!!!! It's going to be a close call.

  6. You go girl! When you open a shop, I am gonna come shop there. Did you see how much fabric I bought at SS? So, my shopping alone should, like, finance your first year ;)

  9. Goals are awesome and when you say them out loud - to others - you hold yourself much more accountable to them. Which gets them done! I am sure you'll achieve them and I'll be cheering: I knew her when....

I have a goal to sell some of the things I create - and would really like it if that included them being in shops in our local downtown.

  15. That's awesome that you've got clear, specific goals! Writing them out like this and sharing them makes it so much more likely that they'll happen for you. Imagine looking back on your blog archives one day when you've reached all these goals, how good will that feel?!

  18. All of your dreams are definitely going to come true, my dear! :) No doubt about it! I'm excited for you! I'm working towards my dream of an etsy shop. :) I'm taking those first steps in setting up and getting things in order. It's scary and exciting at the same time, but I see it in my mind's eye as clear as day. Some days my goals move slow, but I'm moving forward! That really feels great!

  19. Great goals! And way to put them out there—that's brave in and of itself. I know you can do it! (And hopefully I'll see you at Quilt Market, and have just as much of a reason to be there myself!)

  20. You can do it!! :) It's great to make this list, and the publicity of it alone will possibly help you move on checking these off! I have no doubt that you'll get here!

  21. I don't know why you'd think anyone would call you crazy for those goals, from what I've seen from you I think those are perfectly attainable :) you're smart and very very talented why wouldn't you be able to accomplish them?
    Go for it!

  22. Not crazy AT ALL, Megan!! Those are all great goals to aspire to (and a few are on my list as well, though I haven't gotten up the confidence to voice them publicly! Power to ya!

  23. This is very cool to read and be inspired by the vision you have for yourself--I think we crafty girls can do quite a lot. Go for it, Megan!

  24. Love the wordle and the post. I should really think about this. I am sure at 23 and being so focused, you will achieve all this! I got number 1 this year, and no 2 is on my list. My version of no 3 is to make it to the US for a big sewing event like the Sewing Summit. In Australia so its not unattainable but tricky... No 4 - would love but seems too Pie in the Sky for me to achieve, so more modestly, i would like to be able to support my own habit!

  25. I'll frame your face when it ends up in a magazine, I'll buy your patterns and then demand that you help me make the quilts! and I'll definitely purchase fabric at your store. In reality, I'll probably spend a large number of hours lurking there. Miss you pretty!
