a handmade christmas. 2011.

just like oyster stew on christmas eve, handmade gifts have been a family tradition for as long as i can remember.
sewing. quilting. knitting. woodworking. beer making. baking. canning. you name it. here's a bit of what was gifted this year!

lined drawstring bag.
made by me. using Jeni's tutorial, i made this lined drawstring bag for my sister and it's the perfect size for a knitting bag. love those little hedgehogs! :)

more honey cowls.
made by me. i am capital "H." Hooked. on these honey cowls. this time i made two of the short ones and i secretly love them more than my original honey cowls

wallet.
believe it or not, this handmade wallet was made by my dad. shocker, right?! living in a house full of women and constantly being surrounded by crafty goodness, my dad has been around the sewing block a few times. he knows sewing machines, terminology, fabric...although i'm fairly certain he would hesitate to admit it. every once in a while he will ask to get his hands dirty and help sew something. exhibit A: my new wallet. nice work, dad! :) love it!

crochet hat.
made by my mom. i can't wait to wear this new crocheted hat this winter. it's the perfect size and toasty warm!

story people print.
made by a local artist, brian andreas. gifted to me from brandon. this is by far my favorite gift. it's called "mr. right" and reads "he loved her for almost everything she was & she decided that was enough to let him stay for a very long time." little did he know, it's always been my favorite brian andreas print. <3.

all in all, it was a wonderful christmas. tons of family time and lots of laughing. i hope you all had a wonderful holiday, too!

  4. I'm so impressed with your dad's wallet! And I finally got to make Jeni's bag last week, I can see what all the fuss is about that tutorial. I want to make about 17 dozen more!

  11. I love this recap of your handmade cuteness! Honey cowels are still on my to-do list, and I'm alllll about the drawstring bags. I made some much lamer ones with a $20 Target sewing machine a few years ago, and they still make the rounds as reusable wrapping at the holidays. I'd love to make some shaped like yours for future holidays and b-days even!

  12. Wonderful post! (We must be related!) Reading this reminds me of how lucky I feel that people share their blogs...such a treat! I am hoping that in 2012 I finally take the plunge and start writing one...maybe I can kidnap a good photographer?
