My grandpa's favorite color has always been ORANGE. Orange, orange, and more orange. So when he celebrated his birthday this past December I knew I had to make him an all orange quilt. Lucky for me, I love the color almost as much as he does which meant I had plenty of orange fabric stashed away in my sewing room. I knew I wanted to keep the design simple to show off all those fabulous prints so I decided to cut everything down to 2 1/2" strips. This Stripology Ruler was my best friend -- it makes cutting strips of any size super fast & easy.
I've been working hard to make use of the fabric stash I already have and am happy to report The Orange Quilt made a dent -- the quilt top used just over 4 yards of fabric. A little dent, but a dent nonetheless. Each block finished at 20" square and uses ten strips measuring 2 1/2" x 20 1/2". If you're looking for a fast & fun quilt, this is it -- I had it put together in no time!
The quilting was done on my BERNINA Q24 longarm using a matching Aurifil thread -- I'm happy to report my longarm LOVES Aurifil thread just as much as I do! This Loop De Loop quilting design is a favorite of mine right now, so don't be surprised if you see it more in my next few quilt finishes. Not only is it a fast all over design but it's simple and modern.
If pictures can talk I think it's pretty obvious he LOVES IT! Quilts are so fun to make, but there's something even more special about gifting a quilt to someone you love. This past Sunday I stopped by my grandparent's dairy farm in Northeast Iowa and was happy to see the quilt is still in the living room & being used every day.
