the tumbler quilt [a quilty finish!]

It's a quilty finish! Woot, woot!

tumbler quilt [finished]

Way back in July, my Go! Baby landed on my doorstep just days before a trip to the lake. So I packed an assortment of Kona cottons and my Go! Baby + tumbler die and headed North for a week long of sewing and fishing fun.  One week later, the quilt top was complete. And then it sat...and sat...and sat. Pretty much par for the course. :)

Until this past weekend.  Like I said, Sewing Summit nerves are translating into some serious sewing mojo and the urge to finish up some old WiPs. So I pieced a back, basted and quilted this all in one day!

I decided to go with a wavy organic quilting (my new fav!) and follow the direction of the tumbler pattern. If you haven't given this method of quilting a try, I highly recommend it! Similar to straight line quilting, your walking foot makes it easy-peasy.

There's something so great about a quilt fresh out of the wash. So crinkly and yummy!

{Sew} Modern Monday #11

It is time for another {Sew} Modern Monday
here at Canoe Ridge Creations...
{Sew} Modern Monday at Canoe Ridge Creations
In fact, it's lucky number 11!
...the number 11 can be considered lucky, right?...

This week I am very excited to share with you all my Solids Film Strip Quilt Top. That is right, the top is complete!
solids film strip quilt top.
I started this quilt during last month's FNSI and officially wrapped it up this past weekend. One month isn't to bad, right?  Like I mentioned before, I used my FQs I received from the Gen X Kona Your World Swap and paired them with Kona Coal (my go-to color these days).  By the way, signups for Round 2 of the Kona Your World Swap are now open!  Go check it out!  ETA:  The swap is now full.

My design inspiration came from the Cherry House QAL quilt.  Have you seen it? I really liked the basic, simple design of it but decided to add my own little twist. The finished top ended up being a hefty throw size, a tad bit bigger than the original QAL size.

As far as quilting this puppy goes, my plan is to go with straight-line quilting running vertically between the colored rows using a cotton thread that matches the Kona Coal.  That way the "optical illusion" of sorts will stand out.

All righty folks, it is your turn.  You know the drill!  If you need a refresher, here are the rules.  And as always, I love seeing new faces.  So don't be shy and jump right in!

NEW PROJECTS
Are you all familiar with the Cherry House quilt along that is popping up all over blog land?  I instantly fell in love with this quilt.  Something about the Kona Solids and the simple, modern design.  Perfection.  The only thing holding me back from jumping in on all the fun is the finished quilt size.  Following her directions, it only measures 36" x 36".  Seeing as I don't have kids (so no need for baby quilts and/or doll quilts) and I don't really need anymore small wall quilts, it just isn't for me.  So I decided to do a little design remix of my own using some of the FQs I received from the GenX Kona Your World Swap.  Let me just tell you, I. Am. Loving. This. Quilt.  As of now, the quilt top is almost complete (you can see a bit here) and I can't wait to quilt this one.  Hopefully soon!

Top Secret Quilt
This quilty project took up quite the chunk of time this weekend, and probably will take up more in the weeks to come.  While I really would like to share it will you all, it has to remain classified for the time being.  But, I promise it will be worth the wait.

NEW and FINISHED PROJECTS
Have you noticed?  The other night, I decided a little nip/tuck of sorts was in order for the Canoe Ridge Creations blog.  That counts as a finish right?  It's blogging/quilting related, so I will take it!  Thanks for all the kind comments so far!

FINISHED PROJECTS
In love with this quilt.  Enough said.

ONGOING PROJECTS
cutting.
Slowly, but surely I am making progress on this one.  I am about half way through cutting my fabric out (which I am really hoping is the toughest part of this quilt) and I am itching to get started piecing it.

MMM Swap
No Progress.

...And, that's a wrap!

As far as the rest of my list goes, I have decided to drop it for the time being.  I haven't touched any of it in so long that they hardly count as works-in-progress anymore.  They are slowly creeping their way to UFO land (if they haven't already arrived there).  So, new blog look and new WiP list.  Can you all live with that?

This Week's Stats
Last week's total: I am saying 3. :)
New Projects: 3
Finished Projects: 2
This week's total: 4

{Sew} Modern Monday #7

It's time for another weekly edition of
here at Canoe Ridge Creations!
{Sew} Modern Monday at Canoe Ridge Creations
This week I am very excited to share with you my completed Sliced Coins Quilt from the quilt along over at Don't Call Me Betsy.

I had planned on giving this quilt to my sister when she graduates from high school this spring.  That was until she made a passing comment that she wasn't a huge fan of gray.  Eeek!  She might change her mind after she reads this post. :)  I have to admit though, I wasn't too crushed.  It just means I get to enjoy this one myself!

For the quilting, I went with simple wavy lines using the zig-zag stitch on my sewing machine.  Thanks Lee for the inspiration.  Have you seen this quilting method?  All you have to do is lengthen your zig-zag stitch and you're off.  It is so great and offers a fast and easy alternative to an all over FMQ pattern!  I just love the look of it on this quilt.

manicures and a little sewing.

Looking for the Sew Fresh Fabrics Giveaway?  It's over here.

Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to spend the morning with a wonderful 5-year-old and her absolutely adorable little brother.  We played princess (her brother was less than thrilled) and did nails, hair, and makeup.  Check out my fabulous manicure.
manicure.
Complete with pink and purple nail polish, Barbie nail stickers, an extra layer of sparkles, and even a few heart tattoos.  Later in the afternoon when I went to the post office to send out some swap goodies, the lady behind the counter looked at my nails and then looked at me like I was crazy.  I think she might have been jealous. :)

Oh, and last night was FNSI.  If you haven't joined in on the fun, you really should!  I worked on a new project (surprise, surprise right?) using the wonderful Kona Cotton FQs I received earlier in the week from the Gen X Kona Your World Swap.  They were just so yummy, I couldn't help myself.

Want to see?  It's on the wall behind my awesome manicure.  See it there?  I don't want to share too much until it's all done, but I am super excited with the way this top turned out.  It is just so bright and cheery, which is definitely needed during this long Iowa winter.  Stay tuned if you want to see more.

Have a great weekend!

mail time.

mail time!

Do you all know that song?  Maybe I have just spent too many summers nannying, but every time I get the mail that little song pops into my head. Now that I have jumped into the online blogging and swap community, mail time has become one of my favorite things.  Like yesterday when I received my FQs from the Gen X Kona Your World Swap.
Gen X Kona Your World Swap. Received.
I am pretty sure Grass Green just became my new favorite.

Oh, and my order from The Fat Quarter Shop also arrived a few days ago.  I decided purchase some half yards of Innocent Crush by Anna Maria Horner for my Make Mine Modern Swap partner.  I really hope she likes them, because after seeing the fabric in person I think I am going to have to get some for my stash.  They are just so yummy!
Innocent Crush.
And then I figured if I am ordering some fabric for my partner, I might as well order some for me.  Kind of like if you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to ask for some milk, right? :)
Parisville.
I went with this fat quarter bundle of Parisville by Tula Pink.

Like I said,
mail time has become one of my favorite things!

Super Bowl Sewing

While my intentions were to enjoy the Super Bowl with little hand sewing, it just didn't happen.  Sadly, I only caught the half-time show.  And why you might ask?  Well, because I just couldn't get myself to leave the sewing room! The Boyfriend and I enjoyed the Super Bowl festivities at my parents house. So while he and my father enjoyed a little bonding time, my mom, sister, and I enjoyed a little Sewing Extravaganza.  Let me just say, seeing 3 Bernina's going to town sewing makes for quite the sight!
crazy{9} wall quilt
I decided to tackle a work in progress since my list seems to keep growing.  Funny how that happens.  So this little guy, made with some leftover blocks from my crazy {9} quilt, went from WiP to a finish.
crazy {9} wall quilt
My intentions were for it to be a wall hanging in my bedroom, and it might make it there someday, but for now I enjoy admiring it on the dining room table.  I went with straight line quilting through the Kona Coal sashing, and I love it!

do.Good Stitches {a charity bee}. Bliss circle.

Remember my Kona White dilemma over the weekend?  Well the situation has been resolved!  Monday morning I took the ten minute drive to my LQS, through heavy snow and not so wonderful roads, to get that darn Kona White. I guess that's the crazy quilter in me.  Some of you suggested a quick run to Joann's since they are open late.  Unfortunately I live in the middle of nowhere and the closest Joann's is a good hour and a half a way.  That was definitely a no go. Oh how I envy those of you who have a short drive to get your Kona fix. :) Anyway I am getting off track, the moral of the story is that I was able to get my hands on some Kona White yesterday.
Which is good because, starting this month I am part of the newest do. Good Stitches {a charity bee} circle called BLISS and am very excited to work with this great group of ladies.  Michelle from I like orange, too! chose the roman shades block and asked us to use limes, teals, blues, lavenders, violets, and greens.  Here's a look at my blocks.

I can't wait see everyone's blocks all together.  If you want to make your own, Michelle has put together this great tutorial. Go check it out!  Oh, and all of her patterns are on sale this week!

Kona White. love{hate}.

Don't you hate it when you jump head first into a project,
with more enthusiasm than normal,
only to realize you are missing a key fabric?

And it's 11:00 pm on a Saturday night.

Which means your LQS won't be open until Monday morning.
Grrrr.

I am part of a new circle for the do. Good Stitches {a charity bee} called Bliss. February is our first month, and I have been chomping at the bit ever since I found out I was assigned to a circle.  So yesterday when I saw Michelle from I Like Orange, too! posted our first block's instructions I practically dropped everything to start sorting through my scraps.  She has chosen the Roman's Strip block and has requested we use limes, greens, teals, aquas, blues, lavenders, and violets.  Right up my alley!  I had no trouble finding some great fabrics.   I starched, pressed, and cut my strips.  Don't they look yummy?
Then I moved onto the next part, cutting the Kona White squares.  Wait, what?  Kona White?   It turns out I had used all my Kona White stash on my postage stamp quilt along and had forgotten to pick more up.  Insert curse word. *%#@#^.

So, Monday morning I will be camped out front waiting for my LQS to open. For some Kona White.  I just hope my enthusiasm doesn't fizzle before then!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Don't forget to enter in my giveaway.
