work in progress wednesday.

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced
it has been months and months since my last WiP Wednesday post. in fact the last time i participated was way back in march, right about the time i had to go back to work. wowza, time flies! it's almost hard to believe! so i've decided to get back into the swing of things, especially now that my "off season" is just getting started. but with one rule, out with the old and in with the new. i'm scrapping my old projects and starting new this week. so here we go....

<<finished>>
pretty {little} pouch.

pretty {little} pouch [round 3].
i really enjoy participating in online flickr swaps and my favorite of all is the pretty {little} pouch swap! for round 3 i made this little zipper pouch using essex linen/cotton blend and a rainbow of cotton fabrics.

light box.
with winter settling into iowa and the days rapidly shortening, there's not a whole lot of daylight to take pictures so i made my own light box. i can't wait to start using it more!

iPad pouch.

every new toy needs it's own pouch. end.of.story.

i gave a new quilting design a try this week and LOVED it! it will most definitely be showing up in more of my projects.

honey cowl.

honey cowls [1 & 2].
i have fallen back in love with knitting. it's so relaxing and a fun change of pace!

"my creations" blog page.
at some point over the summer, i fell behind on updating my blog page where i showcase my finishes. and man is it hard to get a handle on something once you have started to slip! but it's all done, all of my creations in one place!

<<new>>

Christmas mini quilt complete.

christmas mini quilt.
i've been working on a new christmas mini quilt using red and green fabrics (but not holiday fabric!) for myself after being inspired by this bee block i made. it's all done, just waiting for a photo shoot!

Halfway through honey cowl number three!

like i said, i am totally loving knitting right now! i'm half-way finished with this one after one evening of knitting.

WiP Wednesday {19}

It is Wednesday and you all know what that means.
WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced
Yep that's right.  WiP Wednesday, where I try to
get a handle on my sewing chaos.  Keyword...try.

This past weekend brought lots and lots of sewing...

First there was March's FNSI.  I spent all day sewing, sewing, and sewing.  In fact I finished piecing a top and whipped a pieced back together.  And then I followed it up with even more sewing the next day.  On Saturday I packed up my sewing machine and a few projects, road tripped with my mom and little sister (and their sewing machines and projects) to my grandma's house.

We arrived to the smell of brownies and banana bread baking in the oven.  Aren't grandmas the best?  Then in a matter of ten minutes we had four sewing stations, two cutting stations, and one ironing station all set up and ready to roll.  And the rest was history.
3 generation sewing day.
grandma's sewing station on the left and mine on the right.
It was such a wonderful day!  I am crossing my fingers that there will be many more 3 generation sewing days in the very near future.

notice the caffeine and chocolate.  the key to any sewing day!
Here are this week's details...

WiP Wednesday {18}

Is it just me, or does it seem like the weeks just keep flying by?
I guess they do say time flies when you are having fun.
WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced
On the sewing front this week, there has only one thing on my mind. Remember that Top Secret Quilt I mentioned a few weeks back?  Well folks, I have spent almost every free moment this past week working on it, in hopes of getting it to the quilter by Friday.  As of now, I seem to be right on track (as long as I stay off the computer/your lovely blogs/flickr for a few more days).  The bummer part of the whole thing, I can't share it with you right now.  Ugh.  But I promise, it will be worth the wait!

I did however, pull out a project from UFO land and finish it over the weekend.

pot holders.

I started these pot holders, who knows when, and just never got around to sewing the binding on.  So I finished them up, popped them into the wash, and ta-da.  I have made a few of these before and let me tell you, they are the best pot holders ever!

pot holders.

Oh, and I finished my {Sew} Beautiful Bee block for March.  Hmm, maybe I have been more productive than I feel.

And everything else on my list is sitting on the back burner, patiently waiting for some attention.

It is that time again...

...here's what is going on this week.

NEW and FINISHED PROJECTS
NEW PROJECTS
spiderweb quilting
Spiderweb Quilt -- the quilting
Over the weekend, I decided to tackle quilting my spider web quilt.  Nothing fancy, just straight line quilting.  Only a little bit more quilting, then a touch of binding, and it should be good to go.  I feel a finish in the very near future.
fabric organization
fabric organization.
Fabric organization seems to have taken over quilty blogland in the last few weeks.  Now not being one to be left behind, I started a massive organization overhaul to my entire sewing area (not just the fabric).
fabric organization
I have started to feel a little overwhelmed with all my quilty obligations and hopefully this clean, fresh area will ease the "stress" a bit.  I am about one quarter of the way through my stash thus far and really hoping to finish up over the weekend.

It seems that my desire to get organized has resulted in everything else on my list to sit on the back burner.  Not for long though, I promise.  If you are interested to see what else is on my work-in-progress list, you can take a look at last week's WiP Wednesday post.

WiP Wednesday {15} and a winner.

First things first today.  I have a winner to announce for the Sew Fresh Fabrics giveawayDrum roll please.  And the winner is...
...#2. (Seriously, does that ever happen?!?!) Kristie from OCD:obsessive crafting disorder!  Congrats!  If you haven't already, go check out her blog.  She rocks!

Thanks again to Peg and Becca for sponsoring this great giveaway!

I also want to say WELCOME to all of you new followers who found your way to Canoe Ridge Creations from the GenX Follower Friday Feature.  Sit back, take a look around, and feel free to make yourself at home.  I really hope you enjoy what you see!

And now back to the regularly scheduled programming....WiP Wednesday!

NEW PROJECTS
Are you all familiar with the Cherry House quilt along that is popping up all over blog land?  I instantly fell in love with this quilt.  Something about the Kona Solids and the simple, modern design.  Perfection.  The only thing holding me back from jumping in on all the fun is the finished quilt size.  Following her directions, it only measures 36" x 36".  Seeing as I don't have kids (so no need for baby quilts and/or doll quilts) and I don't really need anymore small wall quilts, it just isn't for me.  So I decided to do a little design remix of my own using some of the FQs I received from the GenX Kona Your World Swap.  Let me just tell you, I. Am. Loving. This. Quilt.  As of now, the quilt top is almost complete (you can see a bit here) and I can't wait to quilt this one.  Hopefully soon!

Top Secret Quilt
This quilty project took up quite the chunk of time this weekend, and probably will take up more in the weeks to come.  While I really would like to share it will you all, it has to remain classified for the time being.  But, I promise it will be worth the wait.

NEW and FINISHED PROJECTS
Have you noticed?  The other night, I decided a little nip/tuck of sorts was in order for the Canoe Ridge Creations blog.  That counts as a finish right?  It's blogging/quilting related, so I will take it!  Thanks for all the kind comments so far!

FINISHED PROJECTS
In love with this quilt.  Enough said.

ONGOING PROJECTS
cutting.
Slowly, but surely I am making progress on this one.  I am about half way through cutting my fabric out (which I am really hoping is the toughest part of this quilt) and I am itching to get started piecing it.

MMM Swap
No Progress.

...And, that's a wrap!

As far as the rest of my list goes, I have decided to drop it for the time being.  I haven't touched any of it in so long that they hardly count as works-in-progress anymore.  They are slowly creeping their way to UFO land (if they haven't already arrived there).  So, new blog look and new WiP list.  Can you all live with that?

WiP Wednesday {14}

It's WiP Wednesday time....

NEW PROJECTS
single girl progress.
Single Girl Support Group
After my fabric find over the weekend, I thought it was a sign that I should join the Single Girl Support Group.  So call me crazy, but I dove head first into yet another quilt along.  As of right now all the fabric is stacked, the templates are cut, and I have started tracing and cutting the pieces out.  It is actually really nice to have something to work on in the evenings that doesn't involve being behind the sewing machine (as if that is a bad thing). But twice last night I asked myself, What have you gotten yourself into?  Are you nuts? It is a little overwhelming, but it helps to know there are over 200 people in the quilt along going through the same thing.

FINISHED PROJECTS
SUTK.
SUTK Swap
Like I mentioned last week, I was having a hard time committing to a project because I was unsure if my partner would like my idea.  Her taste is a little outside my comfort zone.  So on Sunday I took the challenge head on and just decided to just go with it.  Let me tell you, I love it!  And I hope she does too, because I am going to have a hard time giving this project up.  I promise more pictures to come!
sliced coins top.
Don't Call Me Betsy's Sliced Coins Quilt Along
Somehow the weekly steps seemed to slip by me, so I played catch up with this quilt along last week.  In one afternoon I was almost able to complete the entire top, that was until I ran out of the Kona Med-Gray.  Ugh, hate when that happens!  But after a quick trip to a LQS, I got my hands on some more. Now the top is finished and the whole thing needs to be quilted.

Quilt Story Block Party Entry

Now, for everything else on my work-in-progress list.  Well, not much has changed since last week. :)

WiP Wednesday {13}

Wow, number 13 already!
WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

NEW PROJECTS
Quilt Story Block Party
I had decided I wasn't going to take part in the Block Party over at Quilt Story. I thought I just didn't have the time and I didn't really need any more orphan blocks floating around.  Then I saw all of your beautiful blocks, and I couldn't help myself.  So I whipped up a couple of my own, and just need to photograph them and post them this afternoon.  Here's a little peak at one of the blocks.

FINISHED PROJECTS
crazy{9} wall quilt
crazy {9} wall quilt
I tackled quilting this little guy over the weekend.  Blogged here.

I finished this quilt top over the weekend too.  Look at all those little seams on the back.  Eeeek!  More pictures to come.

ONGOING PROJECTS
MMMtaste
MMM Swap
I started this little project for my partner, and I am loving it so much I want to keep it! :)  Funny how that works.  Here's a little peak, just have to add some Wonderland by MoMo for Moda and call it good.

JUST A LITTLE PROGRESS
Dresden Plate Quilt
I am entering one of these dresden plates into the Block Party as well.  But as for the quilt, I only have 3 blocks to go.

DESPERATELY NEEDING ATTENTION
Don't Call Me Betsy's Sliced Coins Quilt Along
I am hoping to play catch up today and tomorrow.

SUTK Swap
I haven't started cutting the fabric on this one yet because I am second guessing myself.  Does anyone else who is/has been involved with swaps stress about what they make for their partner.  My partner and I don't exactly have matching tastes, so I am trying my best to be creative and make something that she will like.  But, ugh, this little project is stressing me to the max.

{Sew} Beautiful Bee
I am very excited to make the block Emily choose (and her fabrics are fabulous!), so I am holding off on starting it a few more days in hopes I finish some other projects up.  We will see how well "holding off" works. :)

It's WiP Wednesday time!  This week should be pretty straight forward.  No finishes and no new projects oh wait, there is one. Here we go,

NEW PROJECTS
SUTK swap
SUTK Swap
Here's what fabric I have chosen to go with for the Spicing Up The Kitchen Swap. Now I just have to find the perfect apron pattern, or make my own. Come on creativity.

ONGOING PROJECTS
postage stamp quilt along.
I jumped into this one head first over the weekend and made some record breaking progress.  As of now, the top is one quarter of the way pieced and I am loving the Bliss fabric.  Maybe enough for a full size quilt?  Stay tuned.

Slice Coins Quilt Along
I am hoping to get the fabric cut out this afternoon.  Just in time for the next set of directions, I hope. :)

Dresden Quilt
Just a little progress this week (not enough for pictures).  Soon though.

QUILTS BEING QUILTED
Spiderweb Quilt
As of this morning the basting process has begun.  Probably my least favorite part of the entire quilt making process, but with the help of some iTunes playlists I am sticking with this one.  Well, at least for the time being.

Brick City Baby Quilt
This one is so close to being done, it is silly I even set it aside.  I blame quilty-ADD.  Does anyone have a cure?

WiP Wednesday {10}

Where did the week go?!?  It's already Wednesday! :)  You know what that means....

FINISHED PROJECTS

crazy {9} wall hanging
Lately I have been "haunted" by one bare wall in my sewing area/bedroom.  It stares at me, all day long, just wanting something to spice it up.  Well haunt me no more little bare wall! :)
sorry for the cell phone pictures.  i was in a hurry. :)
For this wall hanging I used some left over blocks from my crazy {9} quilt and added some Kona cotton.  All it needs is to be basted and quilted.  But for now, I really like admiring it on the design wall behind my sewing machine.  That almost counts as a wall hanging right?
Spiderweb Quilt Top
Yes, that's right.  The top is finished and I will blog about it later this week.  Stay tuned. :)

NEW PROJECTS

postage stamp quilt along
Earlier this week I decided to join in on the postage stamp quilt along.  This is only my second quilt along ever, and I find myself saying "why didn't I join one earlier!?"  If you haven't done a quilt along, I really suggest you do.  It's so much fun seeing everyone's progress on the same quilt!
another cell phone picture. :)
So far I have all the strips pieced and pressed.  The second set of steps was posted yesterday, so I am hoping to get a chance later today to get back at it.

ONGOING PROJECTS

Sliced Coins Quilt Along
The first set of directions should be posted later this week and I can't wait to get started.
I have almost all the blocks pieced and decided on a sashing color.  No new pictures...yet.

WiP Wednesday {9}

It is time for another weekly edition of WiP Wednesday here at Canoe Ridge Creations.  Oh, and the best part, there are even a few finishes this week! :)

NEW {and finished} PROJECTS

Cathedral Windows
After seeing this great pillow from Brooke at Pitter Putter Stitch, I have been wanting to jump on the cathedral window bandwagon and give it a try.  I just love the look of anything that uses fresh modern fabrics paired with a more traditional pattern.  Yummy!  So here's my shot at it.

While it is far from perfect, I am happy I bit the bullet and tried these cathedral windows out.  The tutorial I used was pretty straight forward and I would recommend it to anyone who is wanting to try this technique.  I added the Kona Coal in the "negative" spaces, instead of leaving it the base color (in my case is white).  I really like the look of this and it fits perfect in my sewing area.  As far as anything bigger, I think this little taste was enough for me...at least for right now.

{Sew} Beautiful Bee-January Block
This little guy is done, packaged, and ready to head south (hopefully to warmer weather!).  Cherie chose the dresden block and I can't wait to see what the finished quilt looks like.

Scrappy Squares
This baby quilt went from forgotten UFO to a finish this week.  You can see more of it here.

Coins {baby quilt}
Another forgotten UFO turned into a finish.  Blogged here.

OTHER NEW PROJECTS

Sliced Coins Quilt Along
I am joining my first ever quilt along, and I am very excited.  Elizabeth from Don't Call Me Betsy is hosting the Sliced Coins Quilt Along, go check it out!  Here are my fabrics, still trying to decide on a sashing color (will most likely go with old trusty-Kona Coal or Coal Ash).

ONGOING PROJECTS

Dresden Quilt
Last WiP Wednesday I shared my newfound addiction to those dresden plates.  So far I have all of the "petals" cut, sewn, and pressed as well as half of the blocks pieced.  I am very excited for this quilt to be finished.

Spiderweb Quilt
So close I can taste it.  Well, maybe not taste it, but it is almost finished.  Only one more row to sew on and then it will be time to baste and quilt this puppy.  No new pictures, but you can check it out here.  This is what I am hoping to focus my attention on this weekend.  However, that is easier said than done!

Everything else on my list goes another week untouched.  I hope to get back at them soon, but I don't feel too guilty.  I did after all have a few finishes this week! :)

Oh, and one more thing to add to my list.  This week I started a weekly linky party called {Sew} Modern Monday.  If you like, go check out all the great modern projects that were linked up.  Look like something you are interested in?  Then grab the button on my sidebar and come back next Monday! :)
